Increasing Interest In Testosterone Replacement Therapy

The number of men in their 30′s coming in to cosmetic centers to undergo complete health exams are increasing. The complete health exam includes blood tests that accurately determine hormone levels. They can be used to define testosterone levels and accurately diagnose both low testosterone and a clinical deficiency of testosterone. This type of diagnosis is vital prior to any hormone treatment to avoid negative repercussions.

Considering the release of information in the last few years that indicated testosterone replacement therapy was underused this increase in the number of men interested in being tested isn’t surprising. The information released came from an official study whose conclusions not only indicated that it was underused, but that it was both under diagnosed and under treated.

Nature Reviews Urology study concluded:

1. Men of the ages 40 to 70 – 6% to 10% testosterone deficient

2. Of all men who are either obese and/or diabetic 15% to 30% are found to be testosterone deficient.

3. Men diagnosed with low testosterone or testosterone deficiency – about 10% are actually treated properly

The recent influx of interest in testosterone replacement therapy and hormone level testing amongst middle aged men is considered by experts in the industry to be a direct result of the increase of available information on the subject. Men have become more aware of the possibility and negative results of leaving it untreated.

Untreated instances of testosterone deficiency often leads to abnormal growth of the muscle and bone. It can also lead to decreases in both virility and growth/development of the genitalia. Defining symptoms of testosterone deficiencies vary widely and are easily interpreted incorrectly. This makes proper hormone level testing vital in determining clinical deficiencies before any sort of treatment is heavily considered.
