If golf is your game and “world class” is your style, you simply must plan a Hilton Head golf vacation. Why? There’s no disputing that Hilton Head Island is a golfer’s paradise, trite as it may sound.

Imagine the perfect golfing enclave and it would most certainly look just like Hilton Head Island – a community dedicated to golf and golfers. Imagination becomes reality on the Hilton Head Island golf courses. There’s a Hilton Head golf course for just about everybody, right there in your own “back yard.” The Hilton Head golf courses are always waiting on the Atlantic coast to thrill vacationers.

Hilton Head Island may be tiny, but there are twenty-six golf courses tucked away in its confines. For locations go to sciway.net/maps and look for the printable Hilton Head map. Each course is graced with unexpected details, design and contour that adds up to a lot of exciting challenges for every style of play.

These courses will challenge you in unimaginable ways. You’ll encounter wooded fairways, expansive open spaces, undulating greens, and onerous water traps. A couple of holes will put you almost on the ocean.

Some of the others are graced with a lot of open space if that is your preference. Other courses make good use of the lowland marshes that are standard features of a barrier island, so don’t get careless.

Nowhere is that more evident that at the Sea Pines Ocean course where the fairways are actually certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. On this one, the lowland marshes that are common to the ecosystem of a Barrier Island become your traps. So good luck and enjoy the scenery.

This is not just my opinion. Readers of Golf Digest have rated Hilton Head Island among the Top-10 best golf resorts in America. So if you can’t visit all 26 courses, at least get to a respectable number – don’t get overly fascinated with just one or two. I’ll admit it’s a challenge because it’s so easy to fall in love with every course. Not only are they extremely well-designed from a golf standpoint, but the natural beauty you encounter will take your breath away.

Many of these course were designed by some of the most famous names in golf so there is always something unique to keep you guessing. You can get off by yourself while the rest of the family lounges on the beach, or bring them along. There is something on Hilton Head for just about every level of golfing ability.

You’ve got Arnold Palmer’s Crescente Pointe, Jack Nicklaus’ Melrose, Robert Trent Jones’ Palmetto Dunes and Fuzzy Zoeller and Clyde Johnston’s Daufuskie Island. A Hilton Head golf vacation offers you that and more.
